APCON Delivers Enhanced User Interface in Software v2.15.1

New version of embedded software for IntellaPatch® Series 2000
switches offers dramatic UI updates and improved security

WILSONVILLE, Ore., January 29, 2009 - APCON, Inc., leading manufacturer of switching solutions that enable companies to electronically share network monitoring and test lab equipment, today released an updated version of its embedded switch software. Version 2.15.1, compatible with IntellaPatch Series 2000 chassis running the ACI-2063 Controller, features a new user interface (UI) that combines a more intuitive layout, menu structure and naming conventions. Other software updates include:

  • WEBX, the web-accessible user interface included on all IntellaPatch switches, now allows the import of a switch's user database and user permissions. This feature is especially handy for operators who are restoring a switch configuration.
  • APCON MONITOR, embedded in the WEBX interface, enables fast, easy device connection control via simple on-screen graphics. Customers running MONITOR will now have the option to set a user's access level to "MONITOR-only," which enables a user to access only the main MONITOR patching screen and view patches screen.
  • Support of RADIUS with Attributes, which provides streamlined network authentication and authorization, resulting in users no longer needing a separate login and password to access each IntellaPatch switch.
  • Increased support for 10G connections, including 10G digital diagnostics, port flapping, signal counters and cable testing.
  • As a measure of increased security, the integrated chassis security mechanisms and user access levels are now applied to the serial port as well. This prevents a user from gaining unauthorized system access via the serial port.

IntellaPatch chassis running the Standard configuration of switch software feature the embedded interface WEBX and CLI3, a programming interface used to control APCON switch functions with common scripting languages. Chassis running the Enterprise configuration include those user interfaces as well as MONITOR, a simplified switch management software designed for network monitoring programs, and TACACS+ and RADIUS directory authentication, and SNMPv3 with gets/sets/traps.

Embedded switch software v2.15.1 is supported on IntellaPatch Series 2000 chassis models 2058, 2061, 2064, 2069 and 2065 that are running the ACI-2073 Controller. These switches support all common copper and fiber protocols with speeds up to 10Gbps. Chassis range in size from 16 to 288 ports and allow for partial chassis population, thereby leaving room for future expansion.

The software upgrade and more information about the UI changes are available for download in the support area of APCON's website, www.apcon.com.
